Then we will cover some of the signs to look out for when there\u2019s a leak and why it\u2019s a problem if there is one.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>AC Refrigerant for Cooling; Not for Fueling!<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The most common myth people believe is that refrigerant is what powers the AC unit. A comparison you\u2019ll likely hear is that it\u2019s similar to gasoline in your car. However, that\u2019s far from the truth. Like most things, your AC runs on electricity to do its job. Refrigerant, on the other hand, is a cooling agent that absorbs heat as it converts back and forth from liquid to gas.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Upon installation, ACs are filled with enough refrigerant to last the unit\u2019s entire lifecycle. This is called its \u201ccharge,\u201d and it doesn\u2019t get used up in the cooling process.
